I found that the gold backstitching around the fence and gate didn't look quite right to me. More or less it was the type of floss being used. The sparkle of the metallic would have been lovely but the floss was too wide and flat and simply did not "lay" right according to my preferences. Still, Martina Weber did a fantastic job designing this lovely little piece. I look forward to doing the 3rd mandala in the near future.

Bouquet

This is another hardanger learning kit by Victoria Sampler. I love the purples and greens in this piece and just for the sake of scanning, I placed dark purple fabric behind it to show the weaving and doves eyes, etc. I did mess up on the bottom left dove's eye though. I must have restitched that one 5 different times before giving up. It never fails, I mess up one thing in each of these pieces. <sigh>

This little guy was stitched on 40 count silk gauze. His little head is only 1.25 inches (3.175 cm) wide. I really love the effect of the silk gauze kits. It almost looks as if the stitched area is floating in the mat. However, one could easily go blind trying to stitch over 1 on 40 ct silk gauze that is barely there to begin with! I truly love the intricacy of this piece. I know that scan doesn't do it justice but in reality, it is stunning. I had a wee bit of trouble with the beadwork. As you'll notice, the blue beads at the top and bottom of the center are horizontal and the ones on the left and right are verticle. It is the same with the blue and gold beads of the "flowers" in the archways. I found that if I tried to do the blue beads under the fountains on the sides in the opposite direction, there was not enough room to place all the beads since they seem to be wider than they are deep. However, I am very pleased with how it turned out.

New craft

I just purchased a book called Cover to Cover by Shereen LaPlantz. It is about making handmade books. I want to try my hand at it. I think making my own journals, books and things would be fun. I'll post a review of the book after I have read it.

So far I have read many websites and yahoo groups about the subject and I'm particularly intrigued by the miniature books. Those are books smaller than 3-4 inches.

I already have several ideas about subjects. I'll post things as I go along. :)

Hardanger Wreath

This is the new hardanger piece I did by Victoria Sampler.
